We bought this book from the family of a gentleman who climbed in the Canadian Rockies in the 1920s to 1930s. He always hired guides, and we know he climbed with Conrad Kain. The chances are this book was never sold as a used book until now.
Five peaks were climbed. A small expedition to the Garhwal Himalaya with Tom Weir, Douglas Scott and Tom MacKinnon. They climbed five mountains, including making the first ascent of Uja Tirche and forcing the Girthi Gorge.
The 'Goethe couplet' referred to here is from an extremely loose translation of Faust lines 214-30 made by John Anster in 1835.
