Detailed Product Description
We have some unused US Army steel oval carabiners that were issued to the 10th Mountain Division in the 1970s. However, this classic style was in use much earlier, probably as early as WWII, as this type of surplus biner was common when rock climbing began to get popular in the 1950s and 1960s. Everybody used them until inexpensive aluminum carabiners started being imported from Europe in the 1960s, and Raffi Bedayn started making aluminum ovals in California. This is a nice item for your display of Climbing Hardware or 10th Mountain Division Memorabilia. Price is per each. These are usually shipped Priority Mail, so a few (1-6) can shipped in a flat rate envelope for $6, a lot will fit in a flat rate box for $12 domestic. For foreign that would be $14 for a few (1-6), and no more than $40 for 20 pounds worth! The ones we have are marked WYOTT which is the APW Wyott Corporation in Cheyenne Wyoming, who normally make messkits and kicthen equipment for the Army, but can probably make anything out of steel. We have seen Pitons marked with their name. Another contractor that you may see on hardwear, including army surplus ice axes and piton hammers, is Ames, known for shovels, who have made steel products for the Army since the Civil War, notably bayonets, but also pitons (small bayonets really).
