We are pleased to announce new books signed by some of the greatest climbers of today and the past: Yvon Chouinard, Glen Denny, Steve Roper, Charles Houston, Phil Ershler, Susan Ershler, Steph Davis, Jim Whittaker and John Harlin III.

Phil Ershler is one of the strongest and most successful mountaineering guides in the world. He and his wife Susan are the first couple to climb the Seven Summit, and one of the first couples to climb Everest together.

John Harlin III is the son of legendary climber of the 1960s, John Harlin II, who tells the incredible story of growing up in the shadow of a great climber, and then becoming one himself.

Steph Davis has been one of the strongest female Yosemite climbers of the last 2 decades, and now, married to speed climber Dean Potter, she is conquering some of the great big walls around the world, including the first female American ascent of Fitzroy in Patagonia.

We just received perhaps the finest Yosemite book ever published, YOSEMITE IN THE SIXTIES with incredible photos by Glen Denny, text by Steve Roper, Glen Denny and Yvon Chouinard. It is great reading We have donated 30% of our gross sales of this book towards the endowment of a Professorship Chair in High Altitude Medicine at the University of Colorado. The books are SIGNED by Dr Houston and author Bernadette McDonald.

Also listed below are posters of Jim Whittaker on the summit of Mount Everest, SIGNED by Jim Whittaker.

Please order on our website www.chesslerbooks.com or by e-mail to info@chesslerbooks.com or chesslerbk@aol.com .

Cheers,

Michael Chessler

NY, 2007, 1st edition. 304 pp, color photos. In the 1960s an American named John Harlin II changed the face of Alpine climbing. Gutsy and gorgeous -- he was known as 'the blond god' -- Harlin successfully summitted some of the most treacherous mountains in Europe. But it was the north face of the Eiger that became Harlin's obsession. Living with his wife and two children in Leysin, Switzerland, he spent countless hours planning to climb, waiting to climb, and attempting to climb the massive vertical face. It was the Eiger direct -- the direttissima -- with which John Harlin was particularly obsessed. He wanted to be the first to complete it, and everyone in the Alpine world knew it.

John Harlin III was nine years old when his father made another attempt on a direct ascent of the notorious Eiger. Harlin had put together a terrific team, including Layton Kor, Dougal Haston and Chris Bonington, and despite unending storms, he was poised for the summit dash. It was the moment he had long waited for. When Harlin's rope broke, 2,000 feet from the summit, he plummeted 4,000 feet to his death. In the shadow of tragedy, young John Harlin III came of age possessed with the very same passion for risk that drove his father. But he had also promised his mother, a beautiful and brilliant young widow, that he would not be an Alpine climber.

Harlin moved from Europe to America, and, with an insatiable sense of wanderlust, he reveled in downhill skiing and rock-climbing. For years he successfully denied the clarion call of the mountain that killed his father. But in 2005, John Harlin could resist no longer. With his nine-year-old daughter, Siena -- his very age at the time of his father's death -- and with an IMAX Theatre filmmaking crew watching, Harlin set off to slay the Eiger. This is an unforgettable story about fathers and sons, climbers and mountains, and dreamers who dare to challenge the earth. Hardcover, DJ, New. SIGNED by John Harlin.

2007. 190 pp, photos. Throughout her life, Steph Davis has chosen to take risks, to trust her impulses, to make decisions based on what feels right inside--and never look back. Studying to be a concert pianist, she quit music the day she was introduced to rock climbing. Later, she abandoned the respectability of university life and pursuit of a law degree to become a 'dirtbag climber,' living out of her grandmother's hand-me-down Oldsmobile sedan. Today, by dint of courage and perseverance --and pushing aside the sometimes patronizing attitudes of male colleagues--she is not only renowned for her climbing prowess but makes a living at it. New paperback, SIGNED by Steph Davis.

In High Infatuation, we wait with Davis in the tent through weeks of rain, wind, snow, and sleet, hoping for the weather to improve in the mountains of Patagonia. We race with her up a towering rock wall of Yosemite's El Capitan in a single day, and then spend weeks inching our way up a huge granite monolith in the Arctic. We feel gratitude toward a female climbing partner who cheers her on through an epic ascent.

More than adventure stories, these pieces reveal Davis' soul. They draw us into her struggles with safety, independence, ambition, and compassion. At times, competing drives cause inner conflict, as in her need for constant movement and constant challenge vs. personal relationships. She never forgets that the joys of adventure must be balanced against its costs.

2007, 1st edition. 294 pp, color photos. Phil Ershler is well known throughout the world as a world class mountaineer, guide and climbing instructor. He began guiding on Mt Rainier in 1971 while still a college student. After graduating in 1974, he began guiding full time and has done so ever since. Currently, Phil leads trips on six continents. His trips to South America and Africa, in particular, have become perennial favorites. He is also available to work with small, private groups between regularly advertised programs.

Major expeditions have included trips to Mt. Everest, K2 and Kangchenjunga. He made the first American ascent of the North Wall of Everest in 1984 and climbed the north side of Kangchenjunga in 1989. He missed the summit of K2 via the North Ridge by a couple hundred meters in 1990.

In 1989, he became one of only a handful of mountaineers to climb the highest peak on each of the seven continents. He now has well over 400 successful climbs of Mt. You'll find him telemark skiing on Mt. Rainier between trips abroad.
