2007. Making extensive use of animated 3-D maps, The Khumbu Valley Blues takes you on three weeks of trekking and climbing in the Mt. Everest National Park. After a quick tour of Kathmandu, it’s overland by bus to Jiri, then a helicopter ride to Lukla, where the adventure begins. The route takes us to Namche Baazar where the Tibetan market is in full swing. Then it’s up the Gokyo Valley to the summit of Gokyo Ri. After crossing the Ngozumba Glacier, a long day gets us over the Cho La at 17,000 ft. and down to our next objective: the summit of Loboche East. From Loboche, the path leads back into the Khumbu, and up to Kala Patar for the classic view of Mt. Everest, E.B.C., and the Khumbu icefall. Heading back towards Loboche, we cross the Kongma La and enter the Imja Valley to Island Peak base camp. Poor weather foils the Island Peak summit attempt. Now it’s all downhill to Tyangboche Monastery, back through Namche Baazar, and finally, our journey’s end in Lukla. This program is a 2007 production from footage shot in 2001. 40 minutes. DVD.
