The DVD begins with a brief tour of Kathmandu followed by a Twin Otter flight to Lukla, gateway to the Everest region. Departing Lukla, the path leads east, from the Khumbu valley, over the 15,000 foot Zatrwa La, and descent to the floor of the Hinku Valley. Following the Hinku Khola river north, up the valley, as avalanches crash down on either side of the route, Mera soon comes into view, dominating the landscape from the valley’s head.
After ascending the Mera Glacier to the Mera La, a base camp is established at nearly 18,000 feet. The next day it’s roped climbing to the high camp at over 19,000 feet on the summit pyramid. An before dawn departure puts the climbers on top by midday. Spectacular mountain scenery, maps, amusing characters. Duration: 40 minutes. Region 1 DVD.
