Hugh Ruttledge's personal account of the second British Everest Expedition that he led - this time in 1936. His previous attempt was in 1933. The team included Eric Shipton, Frank Smythe, Wyn Harris and others. The attempt was halted at 23,400 feet by an early monsoon. Other than Tilman's small scale attempt in 1938, this was the last attempt on Everest until the reconnaissance from the Nepal side in 1951.
