After the ascent of Kamet, Smythe traveled in the Garhwal Himalaya where he made his discovery of the now famous and beautiful Bhyundar valley.
Returning with Holdsworth from the ascent of Kamet in 1931, they descended into the Bhyundar valley and camped for two days in a flowery paradise; it was the most beautiful valley that any of them had seen. In 1937 Smythe revisited the Upper Garhwal, Byundar valley, and Banke glacier and made the first ascent of Mana Peak. A typically entertaining climbing book from Frank Smythe, with the additional botanical interest - including a list of the plant species collected on the expedition.
