Full Title: FOURTEEN THOUSAND FEET. A HISTORY OF THE NAMING AND EARLY ASCENTS OF THE HIGH COLORADO PEAKS. AND A CLIMBER'S GUIDE TO THE HIGH COLORADO PEAKS by Elinor Eppich Kingery. Colorado Mountain Club, Denver, 1931, 2nd edition. 71 pp, tables. Softcover First (1925) and second (1931) editions have become quite scarce, especially in really Fine condition. This booklet was reprinted again in 1977 (and abridged.). This is the longest edition, chock full of 14er stuff. This is the first real guidebook for the Colorado 14,000 foot peaks, of which there were only 51 in 1931. Due to inflation and a growing population, we now have 53 peaks over that height. If the Dow climbs over 35,000* in this century, we expect to eventually have 55 peaks over 14,000 feet. Colorado also has 5 peaks over 14,000 feet that are not allowed to play with the others. Some of the more notorious 14ers have a full page or more of history and climbing stories in this edition. (Our website used to say if the Dow goes over 15,000* this century.... well, you know where that went.) * Written January 12, 2025. This week the Dow is 41,350.93!
