Thomas J. Gaston was a British bookseller specializing in mountaineering books, much as we do. He issued catalogs periodically, several a year. These examples have an RSM from an American collector, Frank Campbell, who lived in Denver and was a client of Gaston's. Frank Campbell was an MD and accumulated a large collection of mountaineering books., We met him on one occasion in the late 1980s, he was testing us to see if we were worthy of selling his books to us. We did not pass the sniff test, and his books were sold to other dealers in Denver. From whom we purcahsed these catalogs, and some books.  

It is interesting to look at old catalogs and see which books were once common and cheap, which now are uncommon and expensive. 

I believe when Gastons closed his stock and mailing list were taken up by Louis Baume, another old school bookseller. We did meet Baume once, in his home.  His personal book collection and stock of books came up for auction in the early 1990s. We did get some of his books, but the treasures by then really were treasures, and too dear for us to purchase.
