Munich 2008, 1st edition. 292 pages, 133 color and 67 b/w photos. In German - no English translation. Large format hardcover with dust jacket. Other than the author's signature there is no writing in the book or other flaws, and the dust jacket has no wear and is not price clipped. The Dust Jacket is protected by a removable Brodart clear plastic book cover. The Dust Jacket and the Book are in Fine-New condition. Unlike most of Reinhold's books, where we were able to get many copies signed, he signed only two copies of this book. We sold them ten years ago, and this one just came back to us in an estate we acquired. This copy is SIGNED by Reinhold Messner on the half title page. This is a heavy, large format book. Extra postage will be requested for Media Mail, Priority Mail or International Mail. A beautiful, large-format, book on the history of Nanga Parbat. Using archival material, historical photos, and spectacular aerial photos, Messner tells the history of climbing on this great peak from 1895 to 2005. Here are the stories of attempts and ascents from Mummery (1895), the pre-war German attempts (1932, �34, �37, �38), Hermann Buhl�s first ascent (1953), the Messner brothers on the Rupal Face (1970), Reinhold�s solo ascent (1978), to Steve House and Vince Anderson on the Rupal Face (2005). Reinhold Messner has a long association with Nanga Parbat. Messner made a total of five expeditions to Nanga Parbat. In 1970 and 1978 he reached the summit, in 1978 solo; in 1971, 1973 and 1977, he did not. In 1971 he was primarily looking for his brother's remains. He has written about five books on Nanga Parbat, including his first book in 1970, Rote Rakete am Nanga Parbat. Only two titles have appeared in English. Nanga Parbat bears many names: "Diamir", "King of the Mountains", "Destiny Mountain".
