New Zealand, 1967, 1st edition. 183 pp, b/w photos and illustrations and maps plus maps on end papers. Hardcover with dust jacket. Near Fine condition. This book was a gift from the author Paul Powell to American climber Al Schmitz (early founder of Mountain Travel, father of Kim Schmitz). It has a nice inscription, but Powell never signed his name! From the dust jacket: "...Paul Powell sketches the great Westland mountain which he has loved and fought with for twenty-three years. Other peaks in the Southern Alps interested him but Aspiring especially has haunted and tempted and taunted and challenged him almost beyond endurance. On it he has helped to save human life; has witnessed death; and has himself been rescued from it - just in time."
