Full Title is: REPORT OF THE SUPERINTENDENT OF THE MOUNT RAINIER NATIONAL PARK TO THE SECRETARY OF THE INTERIOR, 1912. Washington D.C. Government Printing Office, 1912. 18 pp. Softcover, Fine. This is one of the first issues of the booklet that has the words 'Mount Rainier National Park' and 'National Park Service' which was founded in 1916. The peak became a National Park in 1899. Climbing is mentioned in several places in this booklet. Out of 8946 park visitors in 1912 there was a party of 62 of the Seattle Mountaineers. Several members made the ascent of Rainier. To date 1,174 people have ascended the peak, and only 162 summited in 1912. There is a recommendation to build a shelter at Camp Muir for people climbing Mount Rainier. In the paragraph on guides, the 4 guides from the Nisqually District are permitted to hike on glaciers and climb the peak. The 3 guides from the Carbon River District are restricted from hiking on Glaciers or Climbing Rainier. There were two accidents in 1912. A Miss A.H. Hunt lost her footing while descending from Pinnacle Peak and fell to her death, and a Mrs. A.H. Gattis was thrown from a horse at Longmire Springs and was seriously injured.
