Thorington explored and climbed around the Columbia Icefield, doing first ascents of Mts. Hooker, Kane, Oates, Gilgit, Coronation, Terrace, Nanga Parbat, Trutch, Saskatchewan, North Twin, Barnard, etc. He also climbed MtsRobson, Lynx, Columbia, Athabaska and Freshfield. His guides were Conrad Kain and Edward Feuz.
