New York, The Outlook Magazine, 1915. 36 pages, b/w photos. Handmade softcover booklet . Near Fine. Glue bound handmade booklet containing three excerpted articles from The Outlook Magazine from May and July of 1915. The articles are entitled: Alaska Days with John Muir: The Lost Glacier, The Mountain and The Ice Chief. These articles appeared in Young's book Alaska Days with John Muir that same year, but The Ice Chief was renamed The Voyage. These are not reprints but the actual article pages removed from the magazine and rebound as a group. Young was one of the first missionaries sent to Alaska and served as John Muir's companion. He went to Fort Wrangel, Alaska as a missionary and explorer, organized the first Protestant Church in Alaska, held pastorates in California, Illinois, Iowa, and Ohio and was later sent to the Klondike. In 1879 and again in 1880 he accompanied John Muir when he discovered Glacier Bay, Alaska. During a mountain climb on Mount Glenora near the Stikine River, he almost fell to his death after dislocating both arms and was only saved from a narrow ledge when John Muir pulled him to safety with his teeth. This story is detailed by John Muir and Young in multiple subsequent publications.
