This photo shows Sir Edmund Hillary with Lady June Hillary at his side signing some ice axes for Chessler Books at the Fairmount Hotel in San Francisco in June 2003, on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of Sir Ed's first ascent of Mount Everest. For the time and effort Sir Ed took to sign axes and books for us, which he did for over 20 years when he visited the USA, we donated over $100,000 to the Sir Edmund Hillary Himalayan Trust and the American Himalayan Foundation. From 2001 to 2007 we visited Hillary in New Zealand seven times to have him sign books, ice axes and other collectibles. In addition, we have donated signed axes and other items that the AHF has auctioned off at benefit dinners. The day before this photo was taked an axe we donated, signed by about 5 great climbers, fetched over $38,000 at auction at a dinner the AHF held at the Fairmount Hotel!
