Laurie Skreslet and Pat Morrow became the first Canadians to reach Everest's summit in 1982 on an expeditions that cost the lives of one Canadian and three Sherpas. Four years later the 1986 Everest Light Expedition saw Sharon Wood become the first North American woman to reach the mountain's summit. In 1987, Roger Marshall, who was kicked off the 1982 expedition and promoted himself as the 'bad boy' of Canadian mountaineering, died during a daring attempt to climb the mountain solo. Barry Blanchard, who came close to the top in 1986, attempted Everest with just one other climber in 1988. As well as giving a first-hand impression of the dangers of climbing, CANADIANS ON EVEREST shows the human side of a very exotic sport.
