New York, 1935. 320 pp, b/w photos. Hardcover with very chipped and worn dust jacket. Book is near fine. Very Good overall.
The classic of American mountaineering. After 120 years it still makes a good read. King, Whitney and others made many first ascents in the Sierra Nevada and produced the first accurate survey of the range. Considered the best edition. Edited and with a preface by Francis P. Farquhar, and photos by Ansel Adams and others.
Francis Farquhar (December 31, 1887 to November 1974) was an active Sierra Club Member and served as President during 1933 - 1935 and 1948 -1949. He also served as the Sierra Club Bulletin editor during 1926 - 1946. Farquhar was a mountaineer who introduced the proper use of roped climbing to Sierra Club members during a club trip in 1931.
