Catalog Nine was another step up in the world of bookselling for us. We had been buying mailing lists of people who might be interested in the type of books we carry. One of the persons who received a catalog from us was a lady in California named Nancy King. She wanted to sell her books. She and her husband had put together a magnificent collection of books on the Himalaya, with all the better mountaineering books included. It was one of the finest book collections we ever were fortunate to acquire. I particular I remember the two goliath Seven Hedin Sets, the 12 volume Southern Tibet, and the 48 Volume Reports From The Scientific Expedition to the North Western Provinces of China... We announced in the introduction to this catalog that we would be displaying books for sale in December at the American Alpine Club's annual meeting. It was that week in Denver when we started making plans to move out west again. (Heinke and I had met in Santa Barbara, and we were both very much aware that the quality of life is much saner in the west than in New York City. In the summer of 1987 we did move to Evergreen Colorado, and we are still here.)
