This was the first Catalog that Chessler Books issued. After this catalog we issued about 6 catalogs a year, until catalog 120 in 2004. After that book listings were only on our website, www.Chesslerbooks.com. Author Signature is optional, your choice. Our first six catalogs were 8 1/2'' x 5 1/2'', a letter size sheet folded in half. The first six catalog were printed by local copy shops in NYC that were so commonly found in those days. I personally typed every catalog we issued, initially on an Olivetti typewriter the Heinke happened to have, then later on a nice IBM with auto erase, which we used through Catalog Ten. We were living in the Tribeca neighborhood of NYC through Catalog Ten, in the Summer of 1987. That summer we moved to Colorado, and rented a real commercial storefront. In the next few years we changed locations several times, always getting more space, and did not move the bookshop back into our home in September 2001. 9/11 did us in. Our first catalog was very successful. We had been advertising in Climbing and Summit Magazine, and had a few hundred names. We had impulsively quit our previous job as a sales Rep for Sierra West and Gregory Packs, and had no idea if we could really make a living selling books. It was a Summer Catalog. The catalog was 24 pages, printed in black ink only, the paper was a decent quality white paper that has not yellowed in the last 38 years. Finished size was 8 1/2'' x 5 1/2''. All the items were used and out of print mountaineering books. There were 187 titles, and there were no images which we finally added in Catalog Seven.
