Annecy Grance, Gardet, Publisher and Printer, 1986, 1st edition. 95 pages, 100+ color photos. In English and French. Horizontal format hardcover (10.5''h x 9''w) with dust jacket. Book is in Fine condition with no flaws and no writing. This is one Mont Blanc photo book that everybody can afford. Mont Blanc is the second most photographed peak in the Alps after the Matterhorn, and over the years many wonderful coffee table photograph books have been produced in France and other countries celebrating the Mont Blanc Massif. This is the first Mont Blanc photo book we have seen that has excellent photos, all taken from helicopters, that is not really an oversize coffee table book. At 95 pages, and about the size of Rebuffat's books, it is designed to show the majesty of the highest peak in the Alps, and her neighbors, in a size less imposing and less expensive than most. I was quite surprised to come across this book in 2021 as we had never seen it before. That is because it was published in France, and although the text and captions are in both English and French, it has never appeared in bookshops outside France. It was designed for the bookshops in Chamonix and other Alpine mountain towns, for the many English speaking tourists, skiers and climbers who visit every year. In 1981 I spent a week skiing in Chamonix and ran into many English speakers, more than I expected. Most were British, but there were also quite a few Americans, including some members of the US Armed Forces from Germany or Italy who had driven to Chamonix to taste the French snow, and the French cuisine. This book is not listed in the Neate bibliography, partly for the reasons above, but also because it came out the same year as the latest Neate edition. It is included in the marvelous two volume bibliography by Jacques Perret as that came out in 1997.
