US, 2022, 1st edition. 357 pp, photos. Hardcover with a pictorial cover, so no dust jacket was issued. This book is brand new. Our copies are SIGNED by Chris Kopczynski. Chris Kopczynski is the 9th American, and 108th person, to summit Mt Everest. He was on the summit on Oct 21, 1981 with Sherpa Sundare, on the American Medical Research Expedition led by John West. In 1981 there were only five teams attempting Everest, and only five climbers reached the summit, all from this expedition. A year earlier, in May 1980 Chris made the second ascent of the West Pillar of Makalu with John Roskelley, James States and Kim Momb, without Sherpa support and without bottled oxygen. At age 16 Chris Kopczynski carved the words �Everest/Eiger� into the handle of his ice axe, marking his goal to climb the two mountains known as the "highest and the hardest." He accomplished that goal by the age of 33, becoming the ninth American to summit Everest and the first American to summit both the North Face of the Eiger and Mount Everest. With the climbing addiction in his blood, he set new goals and became the twelfth in the world to climb the highest peaks on seven continents. Chris was a friend since boyhood with John Roskelley, and they both learned how to rock climb on the local Spokane crags, and together matured into world class mountaineers. Chris� lifelong odyssey to the top of the world includes the climbs, attempts and summits of every continent�s highest, hardest, and most significant mountains. He gives readers stories of perseverance and survival as he achieved his dreams on Robson in the Canadian Rockies, Chimney Rock in Idaho, the Pamirs and Elbrus in the USSR, Denali in Alaska, Makalu in Nepal, Antarctica�s Vinson, Chile�s Aconcagua, Kosciuszko in Australia, and Africa�s Kilimanjaro. Chris is the 11th person to complete the Seven Summits with the Kosciuszko list on May 3, 1994, and he completed them with Gerry Roach and Glenn Porzak, and he is the 19th completer on the Carstenz list. His list of peaks climbed includes Makalu, Everest, Peak Lenin, Denali, Aconcagua, Eiger, Matterhorn, Kilimanjaro, Chephron, Rainier (51 times), and Chimney Rock (more than 35 times).
