Salt Lake City, Dream Garden Press, 1985, tenth anniversary edition. 356 pp. Black hardcover with silver titles on spine and colorful anarchic illustration by R. Crumb on the dust jacket. Hardcover in excellent condition, looks like a new book. DJ is NOT price clipped, both the DJ and book are Fine. SIGNED by Edward Abbey on the front endpaper, which is a map of Utah and Arizona in the Four Corners, Canyon, Navajo and Monument Valley Region. A nice copy of Abbey's best-known work of fiction, a humorous, scathing, and irreverent manifesto which spawned the environmental group Earth First! His motley cast of characters - Doc, Seldom Seen Smith, Bonnie, and George Washington Hayduke - attempt to disrupt those who seek to destroy the once pristine wilderness of the desert, which they, and Abbey, loved so much. This edition has a deleted chapter from the Lippincott version, Seldom Seen At Home. It is also graced by the illustrations of his fellow anarchist R. Crumb. The Monkey Wrench Gang was originally published in Philadelphia and New York, by J. B. Lippincott Company, in 1975. and has been in print ever since. Abbey was fond of the Utah booksellers who supported him at the beginning. To show his appreciation he happily autographed books for Ken Sanders Books in SLC, Maria's Books in Durango, and Back of Beyond Books in Moab. I am sure there are others. This book was purchased at Maria's, and the original owner left their bookmark as ''provenance.''
