San Francisco, Sierra Club, 1962, 1st edition. 103 pp, 42 large b&w photos. Derived in large part from My Camera in the National Parks, published in 1950. The earlier version was spiral bound, slightly larger trim size, and contained 12 fewer photos; travel and photographic data have been omitted here and the text has been rewritten. Original blue cloth hardcover with gold lettering on spine and front cover; dust jacket is price clipped but bright and clean, book and DJ are Fine. Ansel Adams (1902-1984), the Californian photographer famous for his black-and-white photographs of Yosemite and the Western landscape, was an official photographer for the Sierra Club and a co-founder (with Edward Weston and Imogen Cunningham) of f/64, a group of photographers who advocated purist 'straight' photography from life, producing flawless prints with little or no manipulation in the darkroom. He opened the Ansel Adams Gallery in San Francisco in 1933, became a famous teacher, and published several books on the technical aspects of photography.
