Preface by Walter Bonatti. Translated by Geoffrey Sutton. Autobiography by the well known French mountaineer. Mazeaud covers his mountaineering memories from the Alps as well as covering the 1971 Everest Expedition. He describes climbs on the north face of the Cima Grande Ovest, the west face of the Drus, the Grands Charmoz, the Badile, and the Aiguille du Midi. There is also a harrowing account of the tragic failure on the Central Pillar of Freney, where Bonatti and Mazeaud were the only survivors.
