Fine The story of an anthropologist's exploration of India west of the Subansiri river and his attempts to establish friendly relations with the tribes people of the area. Haimendorf undertook his travels during the end of the Second World War. Rather than taking an armed escort, Haimendorf took his wife and professional collaborator to allay the suspicions of the native peoples. This strategy succeeded and Haimendorf learned a great deal about the local culture of this region, knowledge which he recounts in this book. The anthropologist author gathered information on the Daflas and Apa Tanis tribes in the eastern Himalayas.
