We have a wonderful album of 60 vintage postcards that show the Alps above Chamonix France, some with climbers and glacier walkers using Alpenstocks, some cards show Villages and Lakes in the Alps, with some panoramas. The areas shown on the cards in this album are all Chamonix, the Aiguilles and nearby areas. The dates that we have found are 1904 to 1923. Postcards are not normally dated, but some of them have been mailed and the sender wrote the date. About 20% of them have actually been mailed, and most still have their old postage stamp. The addresses of the recipients of the cards are all either in England or France. The condition of the postcards are mostly Fine, no flaws. A few have picked up some soiling along the way. None are stained or worn. Some have been mailed and are written on the reverse, and some are even written on the picture side. The message usually is "We were here today." The album was put together by Geoff Milburn, a well known British climber and guidebooks author. In 2013 he sold his large book collection at auction in England, which we attended. We obtained some nice books which we have been cataloging all along, and now (2020) have decided to offer two postcard albums which we purchased as well. From looking at ebay we see that these type of postcards are still available, and usually sell for $3 to $10 each, more for really nice ones. This collection is contained in a vintage album made for postcard or photos. It has slots to hold the corners, so no glue or labels have been pasted on. This is heavier and larger than most books, so additional postage will be requested for Media Mail, Priority Mail or International Mail.
