Hamish MacInnes was a world authority on mountain rescue. For over forty five years as an international mountaineer and a founder/leader of the Glencoe Mountain Rescue Team he took part in numerous expeditions to the great mountain ranges as well as pioneering new routes from the Caucasus to the New Zealand alps.
He designed the first all metal ice axe and was at the forefront of dropped-pick technology with his Pterrordactyl. His mountain rescue stretchers are used world wide. He was founder of the Search and Rescue Dog Association as well as an Honorary Member of the Scottish Mountaineering Club and an ex President of the Alpine Climbing Group and has been awarded the O.B.E. and B.E.M. for services to mountain rescue and sport.
He was enrolled into the Scottish Sporting Hall of Fame and has written twenty one books. His International Mountain Rescue Handbook has been in constant print since 1972. Also he holds five Honorary Doctorates. Over a decade Hamish took part in the planning and filming of the BBC Outside Broadcast climbs as well as the hazardous Eiger Sanction and dozens of other smaller screen productions.
