Wellington and London, 1965, 1st edition. 245 pp, 35 b/w photos. Pale blue cloth hardcover with unchipped dust jacket. Near Fine or Fine condition. Edited by H.B. Hewitt; foreword and epilogue by John Pascoe. Peter Graham's service as Head Guide at the Hermitage, Mount Cook, coincided with the first flowering of New Zealand alpine climbing, 1894-1928. He made many first ascents of the great peaks of the central Southern Alps, and these alone earn him a great name in New Zealand mountaineering; but his work as a professional guide, founding a tradition of care and safe-conduct for the parties he lead, is an equally important contribution to the sport. Added to this he was a big and a lovable and a deeply respected figure. "Mr. Peter' he was, to his proteges. He began this autobiography late in life, and had brought it only as far as the year 1910 when he died, literally pen in hand. His story is completed in an Epilogue by John Pascoe, himself an outstanding alpine writer and photographer . . ."
