This is a very unique, old ice axe that is 42.5 inches long.  There is not indication of a maker on this axe so it may have been custom made.  This rather long ice axe has a very long leash and is perfect for display over your mantlepiece.   

We have been offering antique wood handled ice axes since 1990. Up until 2007 we only offered axes signed by Ed Hillary, Reinhold Messner and many other legendary climbers, perfect for display on your mantlepiece! After Hillary passed away we started offering unsigned axes as well and we have had some axes signed by Diemberger. 

These types of axes with a long handle were designed for traveling on glaciers, step chopping, and ice axe arrests and belays.
