Considered by many to be the most sought after book on Himalayan mountaineering. Hardcovers. No edge wear, no foxing, spine slightly faded, binding is tight, a very handsome copy. The Duke made an attempt on K2 in May 1909, accompanied by guides and porters from Courmayeur, Italy. They reached 6250m on the SE or Abruzzi Ridge but were turned back by the difficulty of the route. The expedition explored, mapped and photographed the Baltoro Glacier area.
Both Volumes are in the original red cloth with gold letters, in Near Fine condition. Volume Volume One and Two both have bright gold lettering on the spine, All the maps and plates are present, there is no Foxing, and this is altogether as nice a copy as one is likely to find. A handsome set of a major book seldom offered.
