The author was an authority on ice crystalization. Initial chapters are concerned with the chemistry and optics of ice and snow, (with a section on artificial snow), and with glaciers and the geology and topography of the Alps. The (slightly) greater part of the book is then concerned with climbs and traverses of the alpine regions, made by the Author and others, and with notes concerning the weather, changes to glaciers over time etc.
