One of the most useful reference books on mountaineering literature and history. The first edition has some advantages over the second, with lists of first ascents and recommended reading, which are lacking in the 2nd edition.

Despite my enthusiasm for the Neate bibliography, which came out in 1978, I was always annoyed that he included very few American editions, while we saw very few UK editions when a book had an American edition.]
