Houghton Mifflin and Co., Boston and New York, 1916, 1st USA edition. 307 pp, 24 photos, index. An odd case of the USA edition appearing three years before the 'original' UK edition, as WW I delayed the publication of the UK edition until 1919. [Neate A07.] Original brown hardcover with white lettering on spine and cover and brown illustration on cover; no dust jacket; Very Good. A narrative of a some memorable climbs, this work was delayed three years in publishing due to World War One (the US edition actually came out first in 1916). The volume covers climbs in the Cortina Dolomites, up the Kleine Zinne, on the Funffingerspitze, and on the Monch. There are more general chapters on the Alpine guide and safety in climbing, plus further notes on the Lake District and Wales, and observations on birds of prey at higher altitudes. 'The technical and topographical details are the result of over twenty years keen personal contact with the mountains themselves, a continuous keeping in hand and foot touch with the crags.'
