The first biography of this famous Everest climber. 'The most touching portrayal of one of the most enigmatic figures in mountaineering history.' The first of several biographies of the Everest pioneer, George Mallory, whose body was dramatically recovered on the mountain 1999; this was the only biography written by a contemporary, fellow mountaineer and close personal friend.
Long regarded as containing some of the finest details of all mountaineering literature, this work is often quoted in later biographies. In June 2024 I counted 8 Mallory biographies on our website. Searching the internet I see several more coming as this is the 100th anniversary year of his and Irvine's death. They are even doing a biography of his wife Ruth, who evidently was a good rock climber.
