This incredible disaster on America's highest peak has spawned no less than five books. First was Howard Snyder in 1973, The Hall of the Mountain King; then in 1981, Joe Wilcox wrote White Winds: America's Most Tragic Mountaineering Expedition, plus the 100 page pamphlet A Reader's Guide to Hall of The Mountain King; and in 2007, James Tabor wrote Forever On The Mountain; The Truth Behind One of the Most Tragic Disasters in Mountaineering History; and a novelization called Should I Not Return by Jeffrey Babcock. 

As well as the story of the men caught inside the storm, Denali’s Howl is the story of those caught outside it trying to save them—Hall's  father among them. The book gives readers a detailed look at the culture of climbing then and now and raises uncomfortable questions about each player in this tragedy. Was enough done to rescue the climbers, or were their fates sealed when they ascended into the path of this unprecedented storm?
