Climbing in the Spitsbergen section of Norway. In 1962 eight Swiss mountaineers formed the Swiss Spitsbergen Expedition. Their plan was to climb on the northern part of that Arctic island, in mostly unexplored territory.
Instead of using sled dogs, they used skis on the long approaches to the mountains and covered 1,250 miles altogether. Hugo Nunlist was with that expedition and relates here their adventures. Climbing in teams, they conquered many new peaks, and produced valuable cartographical material which was welcomed by the Oslo Polar Institute.
