Full title: The Mountain That Was God: Being a Little Book About the Great Peak Which the Indians Named "Tacoma" but Which is Officially Called "Rainier" This edition has a 50% - 100% increase in text and photos. Tacoma, 1911, 2nd edition. 143 pp, 190 illustrations - 8 in color, foldout map at rear. Pictorial hardcover with edge wear and soiling to cover. Very Good. This 2nd edition, just one year after the first, was so popular that the author increased the text by 50%, and the photos by 100%, double the space and details. Condition is excellent with no edge wear, soiling or writing. No DJ was issued. This edition is expanded from the previous year's first edition. Nice early Rainier book; many photos and descriptions of climbs. This little book is about the great peak which the Indians named 'Tacoma' but which is officially called 'Rainier.' It aims to show the grandest and most accessible of our extinct volcanoes from all points of view. Like the glacial rivers, its text will be found a narrow stream flowing swiftly amidst great mountain scenery. Its abundant illustrations cover not only the giants' fairyland south of the peak, but also the equally stupendous scenes that await the adventurer who penetrates the harder trails and climbs the greater glaciers of the north and east slopes.
