U.S. AMES HORIZONTAL ARMY PITONS: INK STAMPED AND DATED 1944 We just came across a small lot (of 1) Ames Horizontal Pitons, used by the 10th Mountain Division during WWII. It is Ink stamped U.S. AMES 1944 on the lower side of the blade. Alledgedly the Army tested them for strength, to see if indented stamping weakened the pitons. Evidentally it did, as later pitons are ink stamped. This Piton is New and Unused, but are slightly rusty. It can easily be cleaned up, but you may not want to. We just have this small lot and others listed on this website. Price is each: they are expensive because we have had dozens of phone calls over the last 20 years asking for them, and there are none available anywhere, and the demand is high. We have almost all of the five styles of pitons that the US Army issued. They are offered only as collectibles. If you die using them, please sue the US Army, not us. HORIZONTAL ROCK PITON. 4', 1/8' thick, similar function and shape to to a Lost Arrow. Postage is $4 for the first piton, $1 each additional.
