U.S. AMES VERTICAL ARMY PITONS: STAMPED 'US AMES' We just came across a small lot (of 2) Ames Vertical Rock Pitons, used by the 10th Mountain Division during WWII. This lot all are stamped U.S. AMES on the side of the blade. This is actually stamped into the metal, which was only done early in WWII. Alledgedly the Army tested them for strength, to see if the stamping weakened the piton. Evidentally it did, as later pitons are ink stamped. These are New, but are slightly rusty. They can easily be cleaned up, but you may not want to. We just have this small lot and others listed on this website. Price is each: they are expensive because we have had dozens of phone calls over the last 20 years asking for them, and there are none available anywhere, and the demand is high. We have almost all five styles of pitons that the US Army issued. They are new and are offered only as collectibles. If you die using them, please sue the US Army, not us. Postage is $4 for the first piton, $1 each additional. AMES VERTICAL ROCK PITON. 4', 1/8' thick. similar to a Lost Arrow.
