Detailed Product Description
2011 Latest edition. Exceptionally detailed and informative topographic map of the Tien Shan Mountains in Kyrgyzstan, prepared by the German Alpine Club using data from the Kyrgyz national survey organization and satellite imagery. Topography is shown by contours at 50m intervals with relief shading, plus numerous spot heights and peak names. Colouring and graphics indicate different types of vegetation (woods, meadows, swampy grassland, etc.) and soil cover (rocky outcrops, individual isolated rocks with height, caves, moraine, glaciers, etc.). Passes are classified according to the difficulty of traverse. Rivers and creeks indicate their width.

The map shows local roads (paved, country lanes, dirt roads and forest tracks) and footpaths, as well as settlements and isolated buildings, bridges passable by vehicles or on foot, fuel and water tanks, etc. Assent and descent routes, base camp and possible camp sites are highlighted. The map has a UTM grid with latitude and longitude margin ticks at 5' intervals. Map legend is in English, German and Russian. Also included are tri-lingual notes on using this map with GPS units.

Khan Tengri (Uighur, literally 'King Heaven', translated as 'Lord of the spirits', or 'Lord of the sky'; or Turkic translated as 'Ruler of the Sky', 'Ruler Tengri') is a mountain of the Tian Shan mountain range. It is located on the China—Kyrgyzstan—Kazakhstan border, east of lake Issyk Kul. Its geologic elevation is 6,995 m (22,949 ft), but its glacial cap rises to 7,010 m (22,999 ft). For this reason, in mountaineering circles, including for the Soviet Snow Leopard award criteria, it is considered a 7000-metre peak. It is also known as Khan Tangiri Shyngy, Kan-Too Chokusu, Pik Khan-Tengry, and Hantengri Feng.

Khan Tengri is the second-highest mountain in the Tian Shan, surpassed only by Jengish Chokusu (formerly known as Peak Pobeda) (7439 m). Khan Tengri is the highest point in Kazakhstan and the third-highest peak in Kyrgyzstan, after Jengish Chokusu (7,439  m) and Pik Lenina (7,134 m). It is also the world's most northern 7000 m peak, notable because peaks of high latitude have a shorter climbing season, generally more severe weather and thinner air.

Jengish Chokusu or Peak Pobeda is the highest mountain in the Tian Shan mountain system at 7,439 metres (24,406 ft). It lies on the Kyrgyzstan-China border, in the Kakshaal Too, the highest part of the Tien Shan, southeast of lake Issyk Kul.

Jengish Chokusu is a massif, with several summits along its lengthy ridge. Only its main summit breaks 7,000 m. It is located 16 km (9.9 mi) southwest of Khan Tengri (7,010 m / 22,998 ft), separated by the South Engilchek (or Inylchek) glacier, where base camps for both mountains are usually located. The massif runs at right angles to the glaciers it spills into three alpine valleys on the north (Kyrgyzstan), all eventually running to the Engilchek glacier, the largest in the Tian Shan. Its main summit is usually approached from the Zvozdochka (Russian for "little star") glacier, which is coloured red with rocks from Jengish Chokusu.

Jengish Chokusu is the highest mountain in Kyrgyzstan. Jengish Chokusu has the most northerly 7,000-metre rock in the world, and by geologists is considered the most northerly 7,000-metre mountain. (Because mountains often contain ice caps on top of rock, mountaineers consider Khan Tengri, the Tian Shan's second highest peak, as the northernmost 7,000-metre summit.)

The South Inylchek (Enylchek) Glacier and its side glaciers occupy the entire north side of Peak Jengish Chokusu. This glacier, currently at 62 km in length, is the fourth longest outside of the world's polar regions.
