Mountain Gazette was originally published in Colorado from 1972 to 1979. The publication had some great writers including Edward Abbey, Robert Schultheis, David Roberts, Dave Dornan, Galen Rowell and many more who are familiar to the mountaineering community. It was resurrected in 2000 and is still going strong. � 1966-72: Mike Moore founded and published Skiers� Gazette from Denver. � 1972-76: Famed Mountaineer Bob Craig hooks Moore up with Woody Creek, Colorado, resident George Stranahan. The two hit it off and decide to morph Skiers� Gazette into the Mountain Gazette. � 1976: Moore leaves Mountain Gazette and is replaced as editor by Gaylord Guenin. Office is moved from Denver to Boulder. � 1979: The Mountain Gazette ceases publication. � 2000: Stranahan, Curtis Robinson and John Fayhee resurrect Mountain Gazette and base the magazine in Summit County, Colorado. � 2006: Mountain Gazette sold to Paonia, Colorado based GSM Publishing. � 2008: GSM passes the magazine onto New York City-based Skram Media, which also owns Climbing magazine and Urban Climber. � June 2010: GSM transfers management of its assets to California-based Active Interest Media, a mega-publishing conglomerate. � August 2010: Charlottesville, Virginia-based Summit Publishing, which also owns Blue Ridge Outdoors magazine, Elevation Outdoors magazine and Breathe magazine, procures the Gazette.
