Being the largest snow covered mountain range in the tropics, the Peruvian Cordillera Blanca froms a truly unique landscape. Prof. dr. Jan Sevink of the Institute for Biodiversity and Ecosystem Dynamics (IBED) has an extensive expertise on the Andes, based on decades of research and expeditions in South America. In his book titled The Cordillera Blanca Guide: A Unique Landscape Explained + Trips, Prof. Sevink uses his scientific experience to introduce travellers and non specialists to the climate, geology and geography of the Cordillera Blanca. In his book he not only explains how this unique landscape was formed, but also provides practical logistical information for those interested in travelling through the Cordillera Blanca.
Through the publication of his book, Prof. Sevink provides an important contribution to IBED's 'Science for Society' initiative, aimed at disseminating scientific knowledge to specific actors outside of academia as well as the general public as a whole.
