1972 [2011]. I can't tell you how excited I am to have this film available again. In the 1970s I lived in California and worked at a climbing shop. We used to rent or borrow this film on 16mm every year from Chouinard to show in the shop. I even borrowed it once for a stag party for a friend! It is incredible, one of the finest American climbing films of all time.

For many years I have been asking Chouinard and Lito to make this film available again. There were problems with the music, and they probably felt there was a very small market. But they finally relented, and here it is: Fitzroy: The Mountain Of Storms. [Michael Chessler]

A legendary climbing film, a incredible climbing expedition, and the inspiration for Yvon Chouinard naming his company 'Patagonia' has finally been made available on DVD. This historical and beautiful film has never been commercially released until now, and shows some great and legendary climbers at the peak of their careers, climbing Fitz Roy in Patagonia, the first ascent of the southwest buttress in 1968 [aka The Californian Route, the 3rd ascent of peak].

In the summer of 1968 three men � climber and surfer Yvon Chouinard, climber and skier Doug Tompkins, champion skier Dick Dorworth, and film maker Lito Tejada-Flores � set off from California in a sketchy old van to surf, ski and climb their way down to the southern end of Argentina where they met up with a young British climber, Chris Jones. Their goal was to climb a mountain that had been climbed only twice before: Cerro Fitz Roy.

Finally released on DVD. 52 minutes.
