International acclaim followed when he founded the sport of helicopter skiing. He ended his days wealthy and much honoured, a sort of 'Mountain King' himself. Chic Scott has been an integral part of the Canadian mountain community for almost fifty years. As a teenager, he was inspired by Gmoser's romantic idealism and over the years has climbed many of the routes and skied many of the trails established by Gmoser, as well as pioneering a few of his own. He is the author of numerous guidebooks and histories of Canadian mountaineering and skiing.
