Tokyo, Kodansha, 1978. 162 pp, 62 color photos. In English and Japanese. K2 is often considered the hardest 8000 meter peak to climb, and the focus in America has always been on the many American attempts in the 1930s and 1950s, all unsuccessful, although great stories and books have emanated from those climbs.

We also focus on our great success in 1978, making the third ascent. Also much attention is given to the successful first ascent in 1954 by the Italians, especially so since their climb has been so shrouded in controversy, until recently.

What is always overlooked in America is that the second ascent was made by a large Japanese party in 1977, which sent 50 climbers to the mountain. Led by I Yoshizawa, two teams of three climbers each made the summit on August 8 and 9, 1977. Several books were produced by team members on that great climb.

This is the official account of the expedition and ascent, that placed 6 climbers on the summit of K2, on August 8 and 9, 1977. The captions and English language sections are well done, in good English! Large format hardcover with DJ, Fine condition.
