This guide covers crags and boulders east of Worcester. See the section entitled BOSTON ROLLS for a partial list of areas having no description in this work. If you are new to the area or you seek instruction then refer to the CLIMBING ORGANIZATIONS section. This book is not for use by an uninitiated climber.
Short routes; 582 of them. Generally done with a toprope or as boulder problems. Leading is customary at Crow Hill. A majority of climbs are friction or face; the latter are often vertical or overhanging. Here and there one finds a roof or crack.
Some places feature man made structures. Most outcrops are made of granite. Hammond Pond, Route 9 Boulder, and Mount Madison consist of puddingstone. Crow Hill is gritstone. Chalk is in common use, tape rarely needed. Beware broken glass. Bicycle or the MBTA are often feasible transport.
