Tokyo, Gakushunkenkusha, 1978, 1st (only) edition. 15 inches tall x 10 inches wide, 350 pages, 32 pages of color photos, 78 black & white photos in the text, 30 full-page or double-page color maps, 19 black & white in-text maps. Hardcover book is enclosed in a slipcase.

Maps include Nanga Parbat, Batura Muztagh, Hindu-Kush, South of Chital, Tirich Mir & Buni Zom, High Hindu-Kush, Hindu-Raj, Gakuch, Koh-I-Chiantar, Hunza, Rakaposhi & Haramosh Range, Hispar Muztagh, Panmah Muztagh, Baltoro Muztagh, Skardu, Saltoro & Masherbrum, Siachen & Rimo, Saser Muztagh.

This magnificent book has almost legendary status in the mountaineering community, as the maps and color photos are so wonderful, and due to its high initial price 30 years ago, and limited prodcution, very few copies entered the USA, and fewer still come onto the book market. We have had and sold only one copy in 24 years!

This book presents maps of the peaks and glaciers of the Karakoram, Hindu Kush, Nanga Parbat, Pamirs, Tien Shan & Peak Pobeda, many available nowhere else. The main text is in Japanese, but the photos are captioned in English, and the map names & the features on each map are in English. Most of the color maps are double-page in size. The Japanese text gives a history of climbing and exploration for the peaks on each of the maps, followed by a list of references (often citations are in english) for each area.

This book is bound in its original brown cloth, with and embossed decoration on the front, gilt lettering and orange title block front cover, orange title block spine with gilt lettering, additional gilt and orange lettering spine. This book was published without a dust jacket but it comes with the original cardboard slipcase that has a color photo with title tipped-on around spine. The slipcase has done its job and the book is in Fine condition. The slipcase has some edge wear, but nothing serious.

Due to the large weight and size of this book, extra postage will be needed for priority mail, or foreign delivery.
