Once Bitten tells the tory of my fateful climb on Mt. McKinley in May 1999. All seemed to go well until a severe storm at 20,000ft almost froze me and my two climbing friends to death. We escaped by the skin of our teeth and all suffered severe frostbite. I lost my fingers, toes, heels and nose. You may think that would stop me from climbing? Oh No!
The book also covers my recovery from frostbite, how I got back into the worlds great mountain ranges and finally what I learned by living through such an experience.
This book takes you on a journey through life changing decisions, both on the Mountain, and on Nigel's long road to recovery after sustaining severe frostbite.
His steely determination to battle through the aftermath of what can only be described as an epic expedition, put his life back together and go on to enjoy such fantastic Adventures despite his disability is an inspiration to us all'

'Once Bitten is not just another 'climber gets stuck on mountain butsurvives to tell the tale' book. The gripping accounts of the summitattempt, realisation that something is going horribly wrong and therescue are all there, but the other half of the book is all about thejourney Nigel has made since those events in 1999 - the other mountainshe has climbed and his refusal to disappear into the crevasses of selfpity and helplessness that appeared along the way. By sharing hisexperiences he provides food for thought and hopes he can help others. As he says dramatic events may mean expectations have to be moved butthey don't have to be lowered.
