Boston, 1911, 1st edition. 354 pp, photos. One of the nicest early Yosemite books. When Yosemite was discovered by white mean in the late 19th century, it immediately became one of the greatest natural wonders of the new world, like the Grand Canyon and Yellowstone. Visitors came from all over America and the world just to gaze at it, as they do now. And the giant rock features of El Capitan, Half Dome, Sentinel Rock, and the waterfalls, were looked at like sacristry in a larger temple. This is one of the nicest early Yosemite books, written as both a guidebook and celebration for visitors. This copy is Near Fine with only the faintest edge rubbing, and a gift inscription on an interior end paper.
