Detailed Product Description
Paris, 1954, 1st edition. 210 pp, maps, photos. In French. This memoir of perhaps the greatest climbing Sherpa of the first half of the 20th century was apparently written in English, but the only edition is this French translation! He accompanied Shipton and Tilman on the Blank on the Map and Nanda Devi expedition, plus the first ascent team. This volume is much scarcer than almost any other book from the expeditions he was on.
 
Angtharkay is always singled out in the expedition accounts as being extremely strong, cheerful and motivated. He went to Everest with the British in 1933, 35, 36, 38 and 51. He was also with Herzog on Annapurna in 1950 and with Bernard Pierre on Nun Kun in 1953. Original paper wrappers, the cover and spine are bright and virtually unchipped, as Fine a copy as we can expect to find.
 
SIGNED by Apa Sherpa, who is the greatest Sherpa climber of all time, who as of 2009 has summited Mount Everest 19 times!
